Professional anniversary
Well, how humbling today to receive my #Geological #Society renewal notice confirming that I have reached the threshold for Senior Fellow - 50 years of continuous membership! In my head I'm only 29 but thankfully still functioning, still professionally active and still learning every day.
Whatever happened to the fresh faced youth who in 1975 embarked on his first job, first business flight from a wooden hut in Stansted - 10 hours by Transmeridian Air Cargo CL44 turboprop to Kano? Just 3 formative professional #waterwell drilling years, all fairly smooth apart from 2 coup d'etat; 1 caution for dangerous driving; a few military searches at gunpoint; 1 car crash; 1 dislocated finger; 1 nail through a foot; a few bushfires; 1 steel splinter in a forearm; 2 bouts of malaria; 1 Denied Entry in the passport; and a once only Star beer hangover.
Those were the days.......
